What this book teaches

A system you run every day, no matter how you feel that morning. Motivation is always optional. The standard never is.

It gives you a frame.

The Four Rooms model - Business, Health, Relationships, and Growth - so you stop running your life as one undifferentiated to-do list.

It gives you a standard.

The non-negotiable behaviors you hold to in each room, regardless of how you feel that morning. You set each one yourself, and now it's measurable.

It gives you a loop.

A nightly Plan-Do-Check-Adjust practice that closes the gap between who you said you'd be and who you actually were today.

The standard, drawn

Every night, every room lands somewhere against your floor.

THE FLOOR your non-negotiable ABOVE That's a win. HOLDING Still a win. BELOW Try again tomorrow.
The floor is the line you protect no matter the mood. Above it is a win. Holding it is still a win. Below it, you try again tomorrow.
The Four Rooms

You can't stay in any one room forever.

The standard is what you do when you walk into the one you've been avoiding.

Business

The room where your inputs meet your outputs.

Health

The room where your body keeps the score.

Relationships

The room where the cost is the highest.

Growth

The engine room. The one no one checks but you.

From the book

Moods change. Standards don't.

That's the difference between being motivated and being committed. Motivation says: "I'll do it only when I feel like it." Committed says: "I do it whether I feel like it or not." Motivation is a mood. And a mood doesn't get to overrule a decision you already made.

Standards Over Moods - Chapter Two, The Mood
From the community

The people who ran this system for a year, in their own words.

“Sometimes we are so focused on how far we still have left to go that we don’t realize how far we’ve come.”

- Mel Burgess

"The mentorship here isn't just about skill. It's about consistency, character, and calling. The Pack isn't just helping me grow my business, it's helping me grow into someone worthy of the business I want to build."

- Magdalena Tio, WinStack community

“At a time when we were losing hope and on the verge of walking away from our business, we found Aristide.”

- Nina and Tedd Tamares

“A coach and a mentor that can hold a mirror and allow you to see yourself without being afraid of the reflection.”

- Khia Fry

“Most coaches see who you are today. Coach Aristide sees who you’re capable of becoming.”

- Sadé Mizusawa

“He taught me PDCA: Plan, Do, Check, Adjust. I plan my day the night before, so I never wonder what to do at my desk.”

- Charles Swope, Co-Owner, Swope and Thayer Financial Partners

“Coach Aristide has helped me grow as a person and leader more than any coach I have worked with in the past 24 years.”

- Chimene´ Locke

“Even though I’m sticking to a routine, it still feels like I have all the freedom.”

- Moreno A.

About the author

Aristide Abrahams

Aristide Abrahams didn't so much write Standards Over Moods as live it. Before it was a book, it was a 365-day challenge he led inside his community: one loop a day, no skips, with real people doing the reps alongside him.

A global citizen who has lived in Suriname, the Netherlands, and the United States, Aristide has built several businesses, from a construction and consulting company to a financial services firm and a software development business.

Then two open-heart surgeries within a year put him out of commission and made him rebuild his body, and his standards, from the floor up. He didn't come up with standards over moods at a desk. It's what got him on his feet again. Along the way he discovered his passion and immense joy in coaching, helping people reach their full potential in both their professional and personal lives. It was during those coaching sessions that the idea for this book took shape.

Aristide currently lives in Michigan, where he enjoys life as a husband, father, entrepreneur, coach, and now author.
